Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has gotten its second trailer in two months; the only thing is that this trailer does not reveal anything new. It is a 60-second spot that shows basically the same clips as the first teaser that was released back in March. The only thing missing is the Joseph Gordon-Levitt monologue that is featured at the end of the original trailer. I do not understand why they would release a slim down version of the original, instead of brand new footage, but in the end, this is what Dimension Films released: this just begs the question are they lazy or are they waiting until the summer to release more?
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is written and co-directed by Frank Miller. On top of this, Robert Rodriguez, who needs to go to movie jail, is back to direct the sequel: I still cannot understand how The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Shorts, Machete, Spy Kids 4, and Machete Kills won precedence over the very popular Sin City 2. But before I digress any further, Sin City 2 boasts a huge cast of returning faces, as well as, some brand new additions and replacements: Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Jamie Chung, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Ray Liotta, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Josh Brolin (replacing Clive Owen), and Dennis Haysbert (replacing the dearly departed Michael Clarke Duncan).
I am praying that this sequel is as good or surpasses the original; when I saw Sin City in 2005, it was like nothing I have ever seen. The visuals and over the top noir dialogue meshed to create a world that I wanted more of: for a financially successful film, it sucks that the public had to wait almost a decade to get a sequel. However, this movie does contain my favorite Sin City story in Miller’s collection: but will it be worth the wait?
The public will find out when Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is released on August 22.
