Joss Whedon’s latest production In Your Eyes premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival Sunday night. The picture is coming from Joss Whedon and Kai Cole’s Bellwether Pictures, and The Avengers director also served as the writer. This is the company’s second project, following the success of 2012s Much Ado About Nothing; as most can see, Bellwether Pictures focuses on lower budget independent movies.
At the end of the premiere, Joss Whedon, who is busy filming The Avenger: Age of Ultron, revealed in a video message that In Your Eyes will be available on Vimeo for a whooping price tag of $5: “It’s not just the world premiere of the film [at the Tribeca Film Festival], it’s the worldwide release date, because as of now, In Your Eyes is available on any Internet-cable device.” Unfortunately, the movie will only be available for the next 72 hours, but I am wondering what will come from this interesting marketing ploy: “this is exciting for us because it means we get to explore yet another new form of distribution and we get $5.” But the main question is will this be the only release for the low budget indie or will it be given a proper limited theatrical release? Either way, you can currently rent the movie for the next 72 hours on Vimeo.
For those interested, Brin Hill (Ball Don’t Lie) directed In Your Eyes, which stars Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield) and Zoe Kazan (Ruby Starks) as a former con artist and a bored wife, who seemingly share a strange connection.
